SUSTAINABILITY & ANIMAL WELFARE

IOWA RABBIT ADHERES TO STRICT STANDARDS, WHICH INCLUDE THIRD PARTY AUDITS ON ALL ANIMAL WELFARE AND PROCESSING PRACTICES.

COMMITMENT TO SUSTAINABILITY

Iowa Rabbit maintains a "transparent food" philosophy, which involves raising its animals humanely and naturally through a hormone free vegetarian diet. Our philosophy also provides education and recipes to both chefs and consumers alike to promote rabbit cuisine. Our commitment to sustainability also includes being responsible stewards of the land for future generations.

Our family of farmers follows specific guidelines to create a wonderful, natural flavor found nowhere else in the world.  Our rabbits are grown allowing for the rabbit’s natural animal tendencies to flourish and under specific feeding guidelines free of antibiotics and hormones. This attention to detail allows for the animals to be harvested at a specific age that creates tenderness and richness on the palate.  All of this is done while adhering to a sustainable system that offers detailed attention to both the environment, our farms, and the rabbit.

  • Small Carbon Footprint - Rabbit can produce 6 pounds of meat using the same amount of food and water it takes for a cow to produce only 1 pound of meat.
  • Compost System - Iowa Rabbit employs a compost system that takes waste the rabbit creates and converts it into an organic material that can be used in vegetable and flower gardens.
